Cape Breton Island and Newfoundland

Left the Halifax area and headed to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.  Found a nice campground that was centrally located for all our exploring.   The first thing we did was follow the Cabot Trail around the northern part of the island.  Such beautiful scenery.  Here are just a few pictures from that drive.

Made so many stops along the way to take pictures that I can't begin to label them all.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day.

Stopped along the rugged coast and took picture after picture.

As you can tell the road was far from straight

After exploring Cape Breton, we decided to take a ferry ride.....a 6 hour ride that is, to NEWFOUNDLAND.  Can't say we don't believe in exploring.  The ferry was to leave at 11;45 a.m. and we had to be there two hours before that.  Of course we got there at about 8:30 a.m.   Didn't want to be late.  It was rainy, foggy and generally not a good day.  We hoped the ferry ride wouldn't be too rough.  Margaret doesn't have sea legs, but she did OK.

Nice accommodations
Like a cruise ship

Arriving in Port-Aux-Basques, Newfoundland

Rather dreary
Checked into our hotel, The St. Christopher, got dinner and crashed for the evening.  The next day would be for exploring what we could in the amount of time we had.  (We certainly plan on going back and spending a lot more time in Newfoundland).

Headed out early the next morning and went straight to a lighthouse....yes, another lighthouse.   This one was so pretty.  Made from granite, it is the only granite lighthouse still in existence along the Atlantic coastline.  It was called Rose Blanche. (oh by the way, I took so many pictures here it was hard to decide which ones to put on the blog)

Rose Blanche Lighthouse, Newfoundland

The scenery around the lighthouse was quite impressive also. We stopped by a waterfall along the way.  Also explored the fishing village where the lighthouse is located.   So quaint and peaceful.

After going to the lighthouse, we headed north towards Stephenville and Corner Brook.  They would be about as far as we could get in our limited time frame.  Beautiful drive, but starting to cloud up.

At the end of the day we headed back to our hotel and got ready for our return ferry ride.  It was another rainy, foggy trip.  Had a wonderful time in Newfoundland and will most definitely return.  Enjoy the blog...more later.

Prince Edward Island to Halifax, NS

After a brief set back...we had to get the slide on our trailer worked on.  It was not aligned correctly and was making terrible noises.  We lucked out finding a really nice RV dealership/repair place in Saint John, NB.  Joe Cote, the Service Manager couldn't have been nicer...then back on the road.
Beautiful Camping Site near Saint John, NB
Our East Coast journey continues with a trip out to Prince Edward Island.  Had to go across a fairly long bridge that had a fairly large toll.  It was $45.50 Canadian, which is about $35 U.S. dollars. Rather steep I think.  The island had a beautiful drive around the outer coastline.  Very pretty.  Saw several lighthouses (not too impressive as you can see from the picture).  Lots and lots of potato farming on the island.  Went into the town of Charlottetown and of course...had lunch and did a little shopping.

Not too impressed with the lighthouses
Along the drive we encountered some impressive coastline though.   Beautiful red sandstone cliffs. And of course we continued our Geocaching.  Trying to cover all U. S. States eventually and the Canadian Provinces.

From Prince Edward Island we headed towards Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Had an interesting day exploring the downtown area.  Went to the Maritime Museum where they have artifacts from the Titantic and out to the Cemetery where some of the victims are buried.

The next day we went out to Peggy's Cove, NS and took a scenic loop around that area.  The lighthouse out there was much more impressive and the coastline was rugged and beautiful.  Made many stops to take pictures.

Our journey continues tomorrow, going on up north towards Sydney, NS.  Will stay a week or so in that area, exploring the Cabot Trail and probably taking a ferry out to Newfoundland. Looking forward to more adventures.  Enjoy!!

Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park

Spent 2 wonderful days exploring Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.  What a beautiful, picturesque area.  The coastline is magnificent.  Sorry the pictures are a little hazy, the sun was shining.   Just a hazy day.

Beautiful coastline

Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park
We drove the scenic loop and listened to a CD that explained all the stops and what we were seeing. Thanks Martha Weatherford for loaning us the CD.  We set out around 9:00 a.m. and finally got back to the trailer around 5:00 p.m.  What a day...exploring, taking pictures, hiking and having a wonderful picnic lunch among the aspen and hemlocks.

Bubbles trail to Balanced Rock

The picture on the hiking trail was taken before I had to call it quits. David and Margaret carried on all the way to the end.  Just too rough for my poor knee.

We continued our exploring all the way to the top of Cadillac Mountain.   The highest peak on the eastern coast.   Not too tall, but the view was impressive.  Again, sorry it was a hazy day. Pictures are not the best.

We of course also did some shopping...retail therapy was needed.  David had to drive up to Ellsworth on Tuesday to get the oil changed in the truck and pick up some much needed dog food before heading into Canada.

Will be going into Canada tomorrow, so it may be a while before I can do another blog entry. Don't know what kind of internet service we will have.  So...until next time, enjoy the blog.
